Matthew Byerley
Matthew Byerley is a Chartered Environmentalist with over 20 years of experience in the environmental sector, with a strong background in contaminated land risk assessment and brownfield redevelopment.
In Matthew’s current role as Senior Investigations Officer at Environmental Standards Scotland, he helps ensure that environmental law is effective in practice and that public authorities comply with their duties. Matthew’s casework has covered a broad range of issues, including habitat protection, land quality, climate targets, and Scotland’s international obligations.
Rory Angus
Rory Angus is the Community and Engagement Lead at Environmental Standards Scotland (ESS). As part of this role, Rory is responsible for overseeing ESS’ Community and Engagement programme, which works to raise awareness of ESS’ role and remit, and to provide the means for the public to hear directly from ESS about their work and how one can make representations to ESS on an area of environmental concern.
Rory has worked with ESS since 2023 and has additional responsibilities within the Corporate Services and Communications team, including website management and finance support. Rory has a PG Diploma in Sustainability from the University of Dundee and studied geography as an undergraduate at the University of Aberdeen.
