SEDA aims to promote the design of communities, environments, projects, systems, services, materials and products which enhance the quality of life and are not harmful to living species and planetary ecology.

Our ORIGINS
SEDA was formed in 1991 by Howard Liddell and Sebastian Tombs and launched formally in February 1993 by Lord James Douglas Hamilton, Minister for Housing and the Environment at the Scottish Office. The Minister handed out prizes to the winners of the first SEDA student eco-design competition, which we now run as the 'KJ Award'. SEDA began a programme of talks and visits, and a newsletter produced by GAIA which later became our current Magazine. And so, SEDA was born.

SEDA is a charity and is run by a Board of Directors, who are elected at Annual General Meetings and who oversee its activities and actively promote SEDA to the wider public. The Board meet 8 times a year for discussion and for planning the activities of the Association.
