If you are what you eat… What happens when what you eat is wild?
with Monica 'Mo' Wilde MSc FLS
A workshop on wild food, hunter-gatherers, the nutrition of foraged foods, and the impact of eating wild food on your body - with some surprising outcomes. Monica ‘Mo’ Wilde is an independent researcher and expert on wild foods who’ll explain the ‘The Wildbiome Project’. A crowdfunded study where she measured the health and gut outcomes on over 100 people eating only wild food. Next year, it will be repeated with the University of Bradford and funded with a research grant.
Foraging may sound ‘niche’ in the UK but it is hugely significant globally as ‘what we eat’ feeds into conversations on nutrition, inclusion, the colonial nature of food, conservation, rewilding, farming diversity and food security. ‘Forager’ was never discussed as a career option, and Mo was a late starter in science education. However, she then combined a Masters degree as a mature student with her lifelong passion for nature. She’s happy to share her insights into how careers can change, evolve and surprise you and the importance of loving what you do.
